Roll Model is what we call the adults that act as our coaches, officials, and in many other volunteer capacities! Coaches have to meet requirements supplied by JRDA (Junior Roller Derby Association) as well as policies set by our league.
All Roll Models (this includes officials on skates and off, coaches, and several other roles) must complete a JRDA approved concussion training, and a background screening every 2 years.
RAJRD expects all Roll Models to adhere to the Code of Conduct, complete a Photo/Video Release form, and recommends completing a contact and medical information form in case of emergencies. Providing medical information is voluntary and maintained confidentially on file in case of emergencies.
When these requirements are fulfilled for the first time, Roll Models also must register with JRDA. Once registered, there is a place upload to updated training certificates every two years. Background checks updated through the JRDA volunteer registration are automatically connected to your profile.
Roll Models that work with RAJRD skaters (coaches) must also complete Safe Sport abuse prevention training every 2 years. All of these requirements can be met by visiting the Volunteer Forms section of the Junior Roller Derby Association website. You will probably need to revisit the link after completing each requirement. The steps in order for first timers are 1) create an account, 2) sign up for and 3) pay for background screening ( this costs $20.50 as of 2026, make a note if the date this is submitted) 4) follow their link to register for and complete NFHS Concussion training (you’ll probably need to create an account on NFHS) 5) save your certificate of course completion somewhere easy to find 6) follow their link to register for and complete NFHS Safe Sport training 7) save that certificate as well 8) complete the Individual Volunteer Registration, uploading the certificates and entering the date of your background screening. For league affiliation, typing out the word Rochester in full will help make sure that your information is connected to our league.
